Unofficially, my summer started off a few weeks ago at the Lebanese Food Festival (May 18 and 19th). If you have never been, I suggest you mark your calendar for next year. A little something on the menu for everyone, my favorite was the Homus bi Tahini and the tabouli (the spinach pie was yummy too).
Over Memorial Day weekend, Steve and I headed to Philadelphia; Steve had his first “Philly Cheesesteak” at Pat’s (I had a few french fries), we walked around the Italian Market, had dinner at Barbuzzo (have the sheeps milk ricotta, it is excellent), checked out the historical sites, and also Reading Terminal. Philadelphia has excellent public transportation, so getting around downtown was easy (we still did lots of walking). See more pictures at my Facebook Page.

This past weekend was “Broad Appetite
“, a food festival with over 60 local food vendors, cooking demonstrations, and contests. My favorites included the noodle dish from Ginkgo
(also check out their FB page for tickets to a Kimchi and Beer Tasting
), Jerk Roasted Veggies from Africanne on Main, and the catfish nuggets and mac and cheese from Mama J’s
. The whole event was made even better by catching up with friends, great weather and local brew.
Lastly, Monday night was “cook all the veggies that might go bad night”. So with a little garlic, chili flakes and olive oil, oven at 400, and 40 minutes you have roasted patty-pan squash, eggplant, portabello mushroom over farro.
This weekend we are checking out “Beer, Bourbon and BBQ
“, and a trip to Northern Virginia. Have a great week everyone!
